Apple announced A12 Bionic Chip with a lot of big numbers and said it to be the fastest chip ever in any smartphones. Well, Last year Apple said the same and with some improvement over Apple A11 chip here is the first 7nm chip implemented in any smartphone. So what is the main difference between A11 and A12, Let’s dive in further to find out.

Apple A12 Bionic Key Features:

  • CPU: Six Cores (2 Performance cores + 4 Efficiency cores)
  • GPU: Four Cores
  • Neural engine: Eight cores
  • Storage support: Up to 512GB addressable storage
  • Fabrication node: 7nm

We don’t have much information about the clock speed of the cores since apple is not much interested in providing all the information in the launch. Now, Talking about the upgrade or the difference from the A11 chip.

  • CPU: Six Cores (2 x 2.53GHz + 4 x 1.42GHz )
  • GPU: Three Cores
  • Neural engine: Two cores
  • Storage support: Up to 512GB addressable storage
  • Fabrication node: 10nm

What’s Change? 

Apple A12 Bionic Chip has two performance core and four efficiency core just like the previous version of the chip. Apple A12 Bionic Chip’s Performance core is 15% More powerful in CPU performance and consumes 40% less power comparing A11 chip. While Efficiency cores consume 50% lower power comparing A11 chip.

Talking about GPU, A12 chip sports four cores instead of last year chip’s three core. The GPU in Apple A12 Bionic chip is 50% faster comparing A11 chip.

Apple used two cores Neural engine first time in A11 and it was able to run 600 million operations per second. With the improved eight core Neural engine, It can run 5 trillion task per second.

Apple used 4.3 billion transistors in the A11 bionic chip and with the upgrade, they used 6.9 billion transistors in the A12 Chip.
