The most popular Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is attracted towards some unwanted attention. Xiaomi is now on the fourth place in the world’s top smartphone manufacturers. The devices run on MIUI atop the Android operating system with the injected Ad codes. The MI User Interface now shows ads in various applications.

Recently, a few days back a person on Reddit shared an image shows the advertisement of the app in app management settings. I would say, Xiaomi isn’t showing ads in App management settings, but the ads are everywhere in all MIUI apps including Music, Settings, File manager, Downloads, etc.

Advertising has been and will continue to be an integral part of Xiaomi’s Internet services – XIAOMI

Now, mostly every user is using Xiaomi phones. So, let me tell you right now, the company is not interested in making money through their hardware sells, say smartphones right now. The main aim is to make everyone using their MIUI. And at this point, it becomes essential for the company to show ads in their pre-installed MIUI applications and to generate revenue from there. And the good example is Poco F1. It is a cheaper phone with the high-end internals.

The Verge team has directly contacted to the Xiaomi regarding this problem and in reply, Xiaomi said, “Advertising has been and will continue to be an integral part of Xiaomi’s Internet services, a key component of the company’s business model. At the same time, we will uphold user experience by offering options to turn off the ads and by constantly improving our approach towards advertising, including adjusting where and when ads appear. Our philosophy is that ads should be unobtrusive, and users always have the option of receiving fewer recommendations.”
