Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus landed in the market with the great innovation of mechanically changing aperture of the camera. Clearly, it shows the device as a most expensive smartphone ever released by the Samsung company until now. IHS Markit has done the teardown if this beautiful device and literally they found this device expensive meets almost the Apple’s iPhone X price.
According to the teardown done by IHS Markit, they found that the components used in this Galaxy S9 Plus device are taking the numbers to nearby $375.80 which is $43 higher than their previous one Galaxy S8 device. Here we should definitely note that $376 is the manufacturing cost only. Because the first thing comes to everyone’s mind is the company’s profit. Probably you will think the company is making a profit over $450 by selling their smartphone for $839. But it is not true by any means. If you are trying to obtain the total cost of this device you must have to add the taxes, R&D, marketing, and distribution.
IHS Markit has made the whole report of the teardown. They say clearly, Samsung is providing DRAM and NAND flash memories on their Galaxy S9 Plus device to deliver the better performance which are the most expensive components among the all installed in the device. With that Samsung has this time added one another expensive component which is mechanically variable aperture lens camera.
Furthermore, they found the combines Bill of Material cost for all of the provided camera is $44.95 which includes the primary camera of $34.95. Slightly higher than the other cameras. However, Samsung has not done the compromise with the displays. Galaxy S9 Plus display has no any difference. It is 6.2-inch Quad HD Plus super AMOLED display having the 700 nit brightness. But compared to the last year Galaxy S8 Plus device it is slightly higher and the BOM cost for it display is around $79.
